View Our Directory Why isn't Futures showing up as my time standard?USA Swimming assigns time standards based on the fastest standard associated with that event. In the case of Futures standards, sometimes the AAAA time standard is faster than Futures, so AAAA will be assigned to the time, even though you do have the Futures standard.
Is it Top 16 or Top 10?From 1965-2006, USA Swimming recognized the fastest 16 swimmers in each age group. In 2000, rather than honor the top 16 in each age group, we chose to recognize the top 10 swimmers per age.
Starting on September 1 and continuing until August 31 of the following year, USA Swimming records the times of swimmers across the country. Then in September and October, we work to compile the list of the top 10 swimmers of each age. In November, those top athletes are recognized online and in a special section of Splash magazine.
Swimmers can qualify for the Top 10 list in any and all events. So get out there and get moving to get your name published as one of the fastest swimmers in the country!
How are age group motivational standards determined?Age Group motivational standards are calculated on a four year, or “quad”, basis. The current Age Group standards started on 9/1/2020 and run through 8/31/2024.
The Age Group motivational standards are based on the previous Quad's data, using the fastest 25th place time for event, gender, and age group to calculate.
Times are submitted to the USA Swimming database (SWIMS) through the LSC (Local Swimming Committee) Times volunteers. Meet hosts are required to submit results to these volunteers and it’s their job to process the data. The national office does not process any times data into SWIMS from LSC-hosted competitions. Therefore, if a time is missing or incorrect please work with the coach of your team to contact the LSC times volunteer to correct the problem.
While each LSC has its own system in place, please allow for up to 10 days for times to be processed.
Also note that every USA Swimming recognized event is not available for public viewing. For example, SWIMS does not recognize 25 yard swim events.
Intermediate split times, such as the 1000 in the 1650 or the 400 in an 800 or even a 100 fly from a 400 IM, are not automatically loaded into the database. These lead off or intermediate splits must be requested by the athlete or coach from the LSC Times Officer for manual loading.
